Golf is the unofficial "sport" of the Coachella Valley. It is enjoyed by all, young and old, single digit or duffer. The District helps make golf accessible and fun for everyone.
The Golf Center at Palm Desert is centrally located in the mid-valley and offers a 9-Hole Par 3 Golf Course with incredible western mountain views. The practice facility includes a dual-ended driving range, short game area and multiple putting greens. The facility is open for public play seven days a week. Play a short round with family and friends or come out and work on perfecting your swing.

The First Tee of the Coachella Valley impacts the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
Hosted by Desert Recreation District and The Golf Center at Palm Desert, The First Tee of the Coachella Valley is one of 150 chapters around the country and in select international locations. More than 6,000 juniors have been served since the program began in 2008. With the estabishment of The First Tee National School Program, 14 elementary schools across the Coachella Valley are incorporating golf into their afterschool programming. Our on-site programs focus on building character through The First Tee Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.

These camps, designed for PLAYer through Eagle program level children ages 7 to 17 years old, are one week long. Camp participants will learn core values and life skills along with the life long game of golf!
Tee up at the First Tee Golf Course, open daily to players of all ages and levels of experience. Enjoy the recently renovated grass tee driving range, 9-hold Par 3 Course and chipping and putting greens, all amidst a backdrop of panoramic mountains views. Private lessons, free clinics and event scheduling are also available.
The PLAYer program is The First Tee's introductory class level. Regardless of age and experience, all NEW participants ages 7 and up will begin in a PLAYer class. PLAYer 3, recommended for ages 7 - 8 exclusively utilizes the use of SNAG (Starting New at Golf) equipment throughout the session. Emphasis is placed on learning the game through a series of creative and interactive activities on the golf course. The First 3 of the 9 core values are introduced and then reviewed in order to create an element of mastery of those values.
PAR is the second level of The First Tee program and has a prerequisite of PLAYer level. Each participant must certify to achieve BIRDIE status. It addresses: Golf skills at a basic level Interpersonal skills, self-improvement and self-management skills. Minimum age recommendation for PAR level participation is 9. PAR level students have to be certified out of PLAYer 9 level curriculum to be considered for eligibility. PAR level curriculum focuses on inter-personal skills and self management. A minimum of 2 sessions in PAR are required in order to certify into BIRDIE level.
Once a participant has entered the BIRDIE level, they have put in a significant amount of hard work and commitment to their knowledge and retention of the 9 core values and life skills curriculum. In addition, their golf skill set is more advanced. Recommended age requirement for BIRDIE level is 11. The life skills curriculum is focused on goal setting.
For ages 4 to 6, the Little Linkster is a First Tee program designed to introduce basic concepts of the game of golf to young children. Using large, safe plastic equipment, SNAG equipment (Starting New at Golf); young children have an opportunity to experience the beginnings of a life-long recreational game.
The LPGAUSGA Girls Golf program is open to all girls between the ages of 7 and 17 years old. Classes are held at The First Tee of the Coachella Valley in Palm Desert, Thursday nights from 3:30-5:30P.M. The cost for the membership is $30.00 per session.
Members of The First Tee of the Coachella Valley are eligible to try out for The First Tee of the Coachella Valley Golf Team. Tryouts are open to current members between the ages of 12 and 17. The purpose of The First Tee Golf Team is to teach The First Tee life lessons in a competitive atmosphere. Between each 8 week session, juniors trying to earn a spot on the team will play 18 holes of golf for three consecutive days at The First Tee of the Coachella Valley. The top five boys and top five girls will be accepted with 10 additional spots available for a
developmental squad. The Golf Team meets twice each week,
one day for practice and one day for competition.
