Desert Recreation District Receives $500,000 Grant from Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz
To be directed towards the development of the Oasis Community Center and shade structures.
Situated in the heart of Oasis on Avenue 76th between Pierce and Harrison Streets, the Oasis Community Center is set to become the first public community center in Oasis. This pioneering facility is part of Phase II of the ambitious 14-acre Project, designed to substantially expand and enhance the area’s recreational amenities.

DRD announces Park Scheduling and Programming at Miles Avenue and South Jackson Parks in Indio
Desert Recreation District is delighted to announce an extensive range of park scheduling and programming at these parks in Indio thanks to a collaboration with the City of Indio.

First 5 Riverside County Partners with Desert Recreation District to Expand Swimming Lesson Access for Youth
Riverside County Children & Families Commission approved $280,000 in new funding to support drowning prevention efforts through DRD.
The funding will support over 2,000 children from the Coachella
Valley who can receive free, safe group swimming classes this
summer.

Luis Espinoza joins Desert Recreation District Board of Directors
Desert Recreation District (DRD) is pleased to announce the selection of Luis Espinoza to serve as the Director representing Division 3, a section of Indio, on Desert Recreation District’s Board of Directors.
Espinoza was born in Indio and spent the first 10 years of his life living in Mecca before moving to Indio where his parents bought a home. He attended Jefferson Middle School, graduated from Indio High School, and was accepted to University of California Irvine (UC Irvine) where he earned a Bachelor of Art (B.A.) in Psychology & Sociology.

2022 Palm Desert Senior Games cancelled due to rise in COVID-19 cases
The 2022 Palm Desert Senior Games & International Sports Festival (the Games) hosted by Desert Recreation District and the City of Palm Desert, which had been scheduled for February 1 – 6, 2022 and were to include individual sports such as pickleball, track and field events, table tennis, 9-hole golf, 3-point basketball, and team events including volleyball, soccer, softball, and 3 on 3 basketball, has been cancelled.

Desert Recreation District Reopens Indoor Programs
Beginning April 15, 2021, DRD is once again offering indoor programs and classes
Desert Recreation District is excited to share that beginning Thursday, April 15, 2021 they are once again open for indoor workouts, classes, camps, and other events. This announcement comes after having modified programming for the past year to include online and outdoor activities amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing public health and county guidelines restricting what could be offered.

Operation Splash Swim Scholarships Available
Indio, CA (May 11, 2015) – For the eighth consecutive year, residents in the Coachella Valley can enjoy the benefits of free swim lessons thanks to a $49,500 grant that the Desert Recreation District will receive from Kaiser Permanente. Scholarships for swim lessons and Jr. Lifeguard Programs will be awarded to local residents from ages 4 to 14 as part of Kaiser Permanente’s Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) program.
Desert Recreation District Water Conservation Efforts Returns Results
Indio, CA (May 6, 2015) – When the Desert Recreation District (DRD) rolled out their water conservation plan in 2012, they were trying to proactively approach concerns about excessive and unnecessary water use. Today, the plan is working. Over the last two years, DRD’s water consumption has been reduced by 21%. That is no small feat given that DRD maintains and oversees ten Community Centers, three Community Swimming Pools, over twenty parks and a 9-hole municipal golf course in the Coachella Valley.

Indio, CA (May 5, 2015) – The First Tee of the Coachella Valley has promoted Dustin Smith to Program Director. The First Tee of the Coachella Valley is a chapter of The First Tee offered as part of golf programming by the Desert Recreation District at the Golf Center at Palm Desert. The First Tee provides young people with learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. Mr. Smith will lead all planning and development for program in accordance with The First Tee Life Skills and Golf Experience. In addition, he will oversee and further develop the Volunteer program.
