Winterfest at Indian Wells Golf Resort
Winterfest is now open at the Indian Wells Golf Resort and DRD is thrilled to be operating the roller skating rink this year.
Winterfest is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirt with it’s decorative lights and amazing Christmas tree, so come on by, do some roller-skating and then have a cup of hot cocoa, while taking in the amazing views of our valley.

We created this video to tell the story of Lenny the Landshark, who found his place as one of the great lifeguards in DRD history. Did you know that DRD is looking for lifeguards? This is your chance to work outside and be active at a fun job full of cool people, including Lenny the Landshark. We even have some free Lifeguard Pre-Qualification Classes coming up, which will get you on the way to becoming a certified lifeguard.

Hiking trip with kids from our summer camp in Thermal
Recently, we took a hike to Idyllwild, as part of DRD’s Outdoor Adventure program and we made a video about the trip. The kids from our summer camp in Thermal had a blast and kudos to them for pushing through the hike to the top! Our Outdoor Adventure Specialist Todd Merrill and his team used a method known as Interpretive Hiking, which combines teaching about the natural landscape with the fun and hard work of a hike.
Cathedral City High School Pool is amazing!
The Cathedral City High School pool is a sight to behold, it is huge and has amazing views, so we wanted to create a video to show off this amazing aquatic facility. We are thrilled to kick off our programming partnership with the City of Cathedral City and Palm Springs Unified School District by having our Dive-In Movie on July 16th. Bring your suit and watch the movie Encanto from the water. This free event is thanks to a partnership with the City of Cathedral City and The Palm Springs Unified School District. Parking is available in the lot off Dinah Shore road.

Desert Recreation Foundation First Annual Bowling Tournament FUNdraiser
The first annual Desert Recreation Foundation Bowling Tournament took place Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Fantasy Lanes at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, Indio. This year’s event raised funds to support our mission that everyone should have access to quality parks, recreation activities, and education programs despite the barriers of income or ability. One hundred bowlers participated and a great time was had by all!

Our new park, Oasis del Desierto, is Open!
We are thrilled about the opening of our new park in Oasis, known as Oasis del Desierto (Oasis of the Desert). We created a video about the new location and how it is bringing a park to a community that has never had a park to call their own. We were excited to see the soccer field, basketball court and playground all filled with people enjoying their new park from the moment it opened.

DRD is helping North Shore residents that are without power from storm damage
DRD’s North Shore Beach and Yacht Club is assisting North Shore residents currently without power by offering a cooling center, WIFI access and food/water/ice giveaways.

An Inside Look at our ED REC CONNECT Program
Our ED REC CONNECT program is here to support working families in the Coachella Valley by offering a place for Kindergarten through 5th graders to access their school and have time for recreation in the after school hours, all while social distancing and other safety protocols are in place.
Thousand Palms Soccer Kids
Here’s a look at our Fall Season Youth Soccer League in Thousand Palms. Games are played every Thursday night under the park lights. The public is invited to watch the competition. Our youth soccer league is for kids 4 – 13 years old.

This traditional dance from Mexico called Los Machetes has kids like Juan spinning with excitement. Baile Folklorico is held every Tuesday evening and is open to children ages 3 and up.
