Shumway Ranch
Shumway Ranch
Shumway Ranch sits on a 640-acre piece of land within the San
Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains National Monument and was
purchased by the State of California in 2017. Through the
Coachella Valley Desert and Mountains Recreation and Conservation
Authority (formed through a partnership of Desert Recreation
District (District) and the Coachella Valley Mountains
Conservancy (CVMC)), the management, renovation, and restoration
of Shumway Ranch is underway so that wildlife preservation
continues while allowing the ranch to be appropriately accessible
to the public for small group educational opportunities.

Ed Hastey Trail, Palm Desert

The easy yet enchanting Ed Hastey Loop at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument is a mostly flat path, which is wheelchair-accessible and perfect for all ages (as well as hikers with pups), and begins at the national monument’s visitor center. Signs along the trail identify wildflowers and birds that might be seen. The visitor center offers more information including native wildlife, as well as the area’s indigenous history, through special exhibits and trail guides.

Indio Community Center is our largest facility in the Coachella Valley. Equipped with its own park, playground, District Gymnastics Academy, fitness center, multi-purpose rooms, indoor basketball courts, tiny tot room, and more.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to improvements that are underway at the Center, we are closed with the exception of front desk access and gymnastics access. Outdoor programming will continue as planned. If you have indoor activities please make note of the new location or contact the center for assistance. Improvements should be completed by mid-March 2025.
